THIS PAGE IS CURRENTLY BEING EDITED AND UNDER CONSTRUCTION
As Christians, maturity means growing in discipleship. One of the primary objectives of Trinity Church is to assist every person who comes through our doors to develop a deeper and richer life in Jesus Christ. Growing closer to God is foremost in our mind and we strive to do this by growing into more mature and knowledgeable Christians.
Church 101 Is Coming…… (not to mention the Bishop!!)
People often ask me, “Hey, how do you join up with this outfit?” Or sometimes they ask, “How can I find out more about the Episcopal Church?” Or even, “What the heck does Episcopal mean, anyway?”
If you have wondered about any of these things, or would just like to know more about Trinity Church and our place in the Anglican Communion, I invite you to attend either of the two Church 101 Classes that will be held on October 11th and 18th beginning at 10 am in the Multi Purpose Room. Classes will run until 2 or 3 pm and lunch will be provided (let us know if you are planning to be there so we can make plans). The Church 101 class will also serve as preparation for Confirmation when Bishop Wemberly visits with us on Sunday October 26th (one service 10 am – big party to follow!!!).
In the class, we will discuss those things that make us unique – sacraments, liturgy, church seasons, for example– as well as the things we hold in common with the church universal, such as the Lordship of Christ. There will be plenty of time built-in to ask all those questions you’ve been wondering about: “What is a nave? Why does Fr. Nick wear dresses to church? Why do we make the sign of the cross? Why do bad things happen to good people?” Anything is fair game.
A word about the Bishop’s visit and confirmation: The rite of confirmation serves several diverse purposes. For those from other faith traditions (or no faith tradition), the confirmation service is the formal entry into the Episcopal Church. For those who were baptized as infants or small children, confirmation is the “coming of age” service when we make an adult profession of faith and take on the responsibilities of our baptismal covenant. For those who have ‘drifted away’ from our church roots, confirmation is an opportunity to formally rejoin our brothers and sisters in Christ on our spiritual journey. It is indeed a service that means many different things to many different people, depending on your circumstances.
If you think that confirmation is right for your situation, please speak with me about it and plan on attending one of the class offerings. In any event, October 26th is shaping up to be a big day in the life of Trinity.
See you there!!!
Blessings –
Fr. Nick+
