Helping Hands - Micki Rios (281-421-3935) & Kathy
Villemez (281-421-0090)
The Helping Hands Ministry has been going
strong for about a year now. We began by trying to have people turn
in forms to us that listed gifts they wished to share with others
such as driving, reading, meals, etc. That plan didn't work because
it was too broad
and people weren’t very specific or didn't return forms because
they felt they didn't have anything to offer. We went ahead and began
developing the ministry in the form of driving people to
doctor's appointments and that went very well, although it would be nice to
have more people for that because we have many who need to get to
Houston and cannot drive that distance anymore. However, I think
those who need rides have been able to get that worked out.
Then we developed our prayer blanket ministry.
We have many who have been blessed here at Trinity with a prayer
blanket and also
in the community. We've handed out over 100 blankets in less than
a year. The blanket ministry has been successful because we have
many who have been involved, from donating money to buy the supplies,
to printing verses, to putting verses on blankets to the actual sewing
of blankets;
each piece of the ministry has been something anyone can do even
a girl scout troup. We believe we've made a difference to those we
have served, and we have been blessed by being that blessing to others.
We
would welcome anyone who would like to help to come out on the first
Saturday of each month to help with the prayer blanket ministry.
We also would like you to know that at least two other churches have
taken
what
we've
done
with prayer blankets and begun the ministry at their churches, one
in Louisiana and one in Old River.
Helping Hands also has three teams of women who
have begun cleaning
the house of one of our parishioners who, because of cancer,
cannot clean her house anymore, so we do that. We are in desperate
need
of volunteers who can help with that. We clean about once a month
on a Saturday, usually in the morning. It doesn't take very much
time at all. The team usually has two people cleaning and one person
visiting the person who lives in the home, which benefits
everyone. We really need people to volunteer to be on a team or a
team to sign
up together.
The Helping Hands Ministry is run through Kathy
Villemez at the Church office for blankets and rides to the hospital
and through Micki Rios for
the cleaning. We would be happy to visit with anyone who is interested
in this ministry. We believe we are being Christ to others through
this ministry and
the thank-you notes let us know what a blessing our church has been.
We not only believe we've shown Christ to others but that we've been
blessed to see what the love of Christ does in us when we offer ourselves
and our gifts to the Lord to use.
