Update, July 2006
After a deserved hiatus from the affairs of facilities
construction, the Trinity Episcopal Church Vision Implementation
Team (TECVIT for short) is swinging back into action. We have settled
into our North Main location and although it is bright and shiny
new, we have all come to realize that our ministries would benefit
from more space. Many people have expressed pleasure with what has
been done so far, so the TECVIT has agreed to proceed with Phase
II. We would like to dovetail it into the end of Phase I in order
to maintain the momentum, so to speak.
Accordingly
the TECVIT and Vestry held a joint meeting with Jim Graham, our fundraising
expert from Gargill and
Associates, and Jim Ray, our architect. Jim Ray is show in the picture
to the right with TECVIT members, Fred Phillips and Leonard Stasney.
At this meeting, Jim Graham presented an overview of follow-up campaign
particulars
while
Jim
Ray presented an outline of Phase II construction possibilities and
estimated costs. While a discrepancy exists between the cost of a
full-blown Phase II and the estimated amount that could be raised,
the difference was small enough to justify a feasibility study by
Cargill. Thus the TECVIT requested the Vestry to authorize such a
study which they did at their May meeting.
Just to refresh your memories, during the feasibility
study, Jim Graham will spend a week here at Trinity, meeting with
parishioners on a one-on-one basis. He will explore the spiritual
and ministry needs of individuals and obtain from them an estimate
of the gift they could provide. All of this is done in complete confidentiality.
The total amount obtained from the feasibility
study will be provided to Jim Ray and he will propose construction
plans consistent with that level of funding. In the meantime, TECVIT
will solicit input from parishioners as to our most pressing needs.
These will be passed on to Jim Ray for inclusion into the Phase II
plan. After iterative reviews with TECVIT, the plan will then be
presented to the congregation for comment and approval. Once the
congregation and the Vestry approve the Phase II plan, Jim Graham
will return to lead us through our Phase II capital campaign. According
to the Master Plan, Phase II would include a Parish Hall along with
a "classroom" wing that would contain space for meeting (including
Sunday School) rooms, a guild room, a music room and, if needed,
more administrative space.
In rough numbers, the cost of such a project is
in the neighborhood of $2M. This is more than Jim Graham says we
can expect to raise, based on historical numbers. So it appears that
some of the original Phase II items might need to be deferred. Approximately
half the total cost is construction of the Parish Hall (designed
for an ultimate congregation about twice our current size).
Clearly, there is a lot of room for discussion
and careful thought. In the meantime we request that you prayerfully
consider what you wish to discuss with Jim Graham during your feasibility
interview. Scheduling for the feasibility study is not yet firmed
up but will be communicated as soon as it has been determined.
Yours in Christ,
Nick+, Duane Luallin and Jeff Butler
